Kuehne & Nagel’s LEED Gold building was awarded all 43 credits attempted, and 5 out of 5 were awarded for innovation and design.

Kuehne & Nagel’s 179,000 square foot building designed by Heitman Architects is located in Prologis Park O’Hare. The building consists of 27,000 square feet of office space and 152,000 square feet of warehouse space. Inside the office area are 152 workstations and 22 private offices, as well as conference rooms and open meeting rooms. Other spaces include those for dispatching, training, receiving, food service and locker rooms. Interior finishes include polished concrete flooring and counter-tops, broadloom carpet, hollow metal door frames with side and transom lights, and high cube ceilings with floating grid, 2×4 tile and axiom trim. The warehouse is outfitted with 31 dock doors, 2 of them oversized. It has 30 positions with dock levelers between 40,000 and 60,000 lbs, manual trailer restraints with interior and exterior LED reg/green lights, and dock seals. The warehouse also has a trucker’s cage, compactor, x-ray scanner and residue test stations.

White TPO roofing material was chosen because of its ability to reduce the heat island effect and cooling costs. Specialized exterior light fixtures completely eliminated light pollution. The construction products not only contained over 20% post-consumer recycled material, many were also made within 500 miles of the job site.

Since its entrance into the Chicago area, airfreight forwarder Kuehne & Nagel has built three facilities. For each one, they’ve called us.
